Position Summary:

Primarily provides Radio Access Network (RAN) design engineering and some radio frequency engineering (RF) engineering. Engineer job duties are focused on design with 70% or greater of time spent on design activities.

Job Description

  • Performs network design activities for radio access network.
  • Analyzes, designs, and optimizes wireless network to drive improvements in functionality, performance, and efficiency.
  • Uses propagation models, predictive analysis, various tools/processes, and engineering principles to make additions and changes to the network in support of the organizations strategic objectives.
  • Creates design plans for network expansion and/or modification.
  • Collaborates with multiple teams to ensure engineering designs are implemented as intended and to ensure quality issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • May include GIS (Geographic Information Systems) activities involving the analysis of RAN data to create design plans to improve all key indexes and performance indicators.
  • Hand on knowledge of Design Engineering tools like ASSET, ACTIX etc.
  • Design principles of inbuilding networks
  • knowledge of iBwave or industry equivalent design tools

Job Description

  • Providing end to end support for all stages of RF Design including P-RFDS, CD Review, RF CIQ, E911, Port Matrices, Reviewed Closeout package review for Chicago market. Creating 2G,3G Cells with, WBTS, BSC, RNC to have accurate parameter for SCF creation.
  • Working on multiple POR’s like L600, Anchor, L700 4x2, AAS, 5GmmW, & Sprint Retain sites for Chicago market.
  • Preparing preliminary RF data sheet based on spectrum pivot, build matrix, sector count, baseband requirements, radios and confirm spectrum allocation is provided for the new technology.
  • Reviewing Structure Analysis report and Construction Drawing to confirm no discrepancy with finalized RFDS.
  • Building new sites in ASSET and updating the site antenna quantity and assigning sector to respective sector/technology as per planning configuration to escalate additional coverage & capacity.
  • Creating and setting up the propagation model(s) and map the map the antennas that are used in network to see coverage and capacity for the new site design by using MapInfo and Asset.
  • Preparing E911 work order to get GMLC (Gateway Mobile Location Center) and eSMLC (Enhanced Serving Mobile Location Center) data provisioned for individual cell in the pier tool. Use of ASSET, Pier, OneData, RFDS, ELEMENT, SLIPED, M-PILOT, LEMMING, BTS Manager Tool, and RIOT

Qualifications:

Education: Must possess a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications and Network Engineering or related field.

Experience Level: 1 year of experience in the position offered or a related position.

Job Description

  • Deliver several services of Mobile radio network design, optimization, and performance management.
  • Investigate Radio access network KPI performance and provide clear improvement plans.
  • Strong experience in 3G and 4G technologies (UMTS, HSPA, LTE); VoLTE will be a plus
  • Experience in performance and optimization in one or more Sub-Systems (e.g., 3G/4G RAN, PS Core, IP backbone)
  • Knowledge with network KPI performance; statistics; analysis and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge and practice of Networks RAN parameters and counters; multi-vendor knowledge will be a plus
  • Troubleshoot with creativity and different approaches for severe, undefined problems in networks and propose suitable resolving solutions.
  • Lead major system updates/upgrades of live networks.
  • Participate with technical knowledge in presales activities and assists to contribute to the sales efforts.
  • Mentor less experienced Service Engineers.
  • Offer and drive initiative plans to improve TX performance.
  • Actively engage with other departments with TX Performance related issues including faults, alarms and to assist with root cause analysis.
  • Prior experience with designing and optimizing VoLTE/LTE/GSM and CDMA wireless networks for Tier 1 carriers or smaller discreet operators
  • Experience with overlay networks (i.e., LTE/UMTS/CDMA/GSM) and/or design recommendations for integrated/converted networks and DAS installations.

Job Description

  • Understanding of RFDS and construction diagrams to guide construction crew for modifications on Legacy.
  • UMTS LTE (FDD TDD). 5G (FDD TDD) integration and commissioning on FSMF, FSME ESMB AIRSCALE Nokia Baseband modules.
  • Troubleshooting MHA detection, RET commissioning, VSWR, RSSI issues on WCDMA. • GSM integration and commissioning on ESMB, FSMF Nokia baseband modules and troubleshooting VSWR RSSI issues and MHA detection related to Radio modules.
  • Troubleshooting VSWR, RSSI, BER, Optical fiber reading and validate the Data Throughput
  • Perform emergency call testing by calling E911 operator and validating caller location accuracy, call back number validation and some additional information related to network coverage.
  • Verifying circuit switch fall back concept on 5GNR, 5G 2500 by performing Emergency call testing, and validating results.
  • Delta box commissioning and allocating security alarms like Door open alarms, power failure alarms, battery sensors, etc.
  • FE will be responsible to configure the CSR at the site.
  • FE will be responsible for cabinet Alarm commissioning to ensure there is construction issue on Cabinet Install.
  • FE will validate the Designated SFP Install, GPS cable is connected, and backhaul fiber/Cat-6 is connected.
  • Verify power, site External alarm configuration and material inventory to ensure site is ready for Integration and commissioning.
  • Verify antenna Model, position, and commission the RETs matching with RFDS designed values.
  • FE will be responsible for site verification to ensure there is No faulty radios /VSWR/ RTWP/ RET/ SFP swap/issues.
  • FE will be responsible for fiber connections and configurations at the site. • FE will work closely with the Switch, Integration bridge and client in the market to triage and troubleshoot the problems during integration, commissioning and post launch as needed.
  • FE will be responsible for all site alarm solution and fix the issues for scheduled sites. • FE will be working closely with RF and construction war room team to triage and troubleshoot any network functionality issues during construction, post construction and commissioning phase of work.
  • FE will be responsible for E911 calls on all legacy technologies as well as new technologies integrated.
  • Exhicute system engineering activities such as, parameter alignment, performance analysis, test strategy creation, troubleshooting, feature requirements identification, feature description documentation.
  • Troubleshooting and maintain safe operation, alarm interpretation and upgradation for LTE AWS, PCS, and GSM equipment’s, as well as Node-B/ eNode-B.
  • Troubleshoot SW and HW of base stations using Nokia Element Manager, RBS Element Manager and Moshell work.
  • Node B, Sync Troubleshooting Loop check for TX/IP from Node B to RNC. • Analyze, troubleshoot and program RET configuration for RFS, Ericsson, Andrew, CommScope Antenna systems.
  • Validate Working Mechanism of TMA and installation, removal and troubleshoot for RFS, CommScope and other TMA Manufacturers
  • Test and measurement of wireless cell site quality using PIM, VSWR, OTDR for coaxial and optical fibers
  • Script modification/ loading and troubleshooting in eNodeB
  • License key and SW upgrade on site execution for WCDMA and LTE
  • Perform DUL / DUW Board replacement and health check
  • Onsite or remote troubleshooting for Configuration or HW issues associated with LTE, WCDMA GSM Nodes (RBS)
  • Test and troubleshoot RAN equipment Troubleshoot RSSI Issues
  • Good theoretical and practical understanding of basic RF Engineering and general principles, including digital modulation and demodulation.

Qualification:

Alternate Requirement: Master’s (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic, Communications or Network Engineering, or closely related degree plus 24 months of progressive experience in job offered.
